- Because the toggle switch is set for 20 amps, the load on the circuit cannot exceed this amount. When you wire up the heater pads to the toggle switch, make sure that you take this into consideration. If the amps exceed this amount, add another toggle switch to the circuit. If your circuit is 20 amps, a 12-gauge stranded wire must be used to handle the load well.
